Black coffee is like a ritual for me, so this article made me laugh (at myself too). Also, like a true Italian does, a double espresso must cool just enough so it does not burn the throat. But it must be drunk down in one shot ;-)
I love the way black coffee evolves as it cools. When it’s super hot, it’s impossible to taste all the subtleties. As for tortilla chips, I break a corner off and eat it. The remaining chip is a strip that is much easier to dip.
Dealing with triangular items is challenging. I agree with your tortilla strategy. As soon as a rectangle is created you are away and clear. See also: samosas, Toblerone and high-tea sandwiches
At a slumber party when I was a kid, one girl said she only ever wanted the folded potato chips. Now I must have them too. What if I had never heard her say that? What would my chips life be like?
I just love your style of writing and your storytelling. One of my favorite lines in this entry was “Many great final sips have been lost to the unintended surprise of unincorporated syrup at the bottom of the cup”. The imagery hits home and I can almost taste the blast of syrup surprise at the end- this has definitely happened to me before 🤣

food (and beverage) writing always brings me so much joy, and this is one of my favorite pieces!!

Oh, I love that so much.

Thank you! It’s such a visceral experience, had to attempt to do it justice :)
